Watch Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) female protestors, who were arrested during the start of the national shutdown after midnight in Braamfonten in Johannesburg, have been released from jail this morning, 20 March 2023.

EFF MEMBERS RELEASED FROM JAIL

Law enforcement officers through the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) have, in the last 12 hours, arrested 87 protestors across the country for public violence-related offenses.

A video on the EFF Twitter page shows members of the South African Police dispersing a crowd of protesting EFF members with teargas. The group started running, and some females fell to the ground and were arrested.

The EFF members were released this morning from the Braamfontein police station.

The EFF members, mostly students, were arrested early on Monday morning at the start of the national shutdown in Braamfontein. The EFF members were arrested shortly after the police dispersed the crowd of protesting EFF members.

A post on the EFF Twitter page reads: “All the students who were violently and illegally arrested by police in Braamfontein for peaceful protest are released. The cowards of SAPS who target young women will never win! It’s Now Or Never!”

The group posted a picture in front of the police station.

The EFF is leading the national shutdown in protest to the continued load shedding in the country and socio-economic problems. They also hope to get rid of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa said he was going nowhere, and the only way the EFF could get rid of him was through a vote.
