CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – JUNE 22: President Jacob Zuma addresses Parliament during a question and answer #ZumaQandA at the National Assembly on June 22, 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa. Last week, Jacob Zuma held question time in the National Assembly and, as you might expect, it went down like a sack of potatoes.

While Zuma tried his best to laugh off the secret ballot, there were also other interrogations happening, most pertinently on the mining charter.

Mmusi Maimane went head to head with JZ and it was rough.

The video is long, so we’ve broken down the most important parts for you.

You can start off by watching the first two minutes, where Maimane is straight in with the whole “thanks for being here when the Minister of Saxonworld is not”.

Ouch.

Moving on…

At 7:40, right after Maimane question Zuma on the whole thing about white monopoly capital being an invention of controversial PR firm Bell Pottinger, the president quips: Don’t raise things that are controversial.

And then things get weird. Zuma goes on a sort of tirade about English “coming from London” and asks Maimane why he uses English.

“We are dealing with the content, not the language,” Zuma says and then goes on to explain radical economic transformation.

Zuma goes on and on and then chirps Maimane: Don’t feed me with your English words from London. And of course he then laughs.

Kanti?

You can watch that extract here:

Then, at around the 15:00 mark, Maimane gets stuck into Duduzane. Zuma responds from around 17:20 and tries to justify South Africa’s terrible unemployment rate by saying it’s been “declining around the world”. He’s right, of course, but South Africa has one of the absolute worst rates for unemployment globally.

Then at 18:30 he says he’s never heard about Duduzane benefitting from government… now that’s a whole different kettle of fish considering the #GuptaLeaks have shown Duduzane to have close ties with the family.
