A search was launched for those who grabbed money from a crime scene after a cash-in-transit van was bombed on the N7/N1 fly pass outside Cape Town.

A VIDEO OF THE PEOPLE GRABBING MONEY HAS GONE VIRAL

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Robert Netshiunda said a 72-hour activation plan had been instituted to hunt down other people who sneaked away from the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

In a recent video, several South Africans are seen at the crime scene grabbing cash from the bombed CIT van. Some even stuff the money down their trousers.

The cash-in-transit heist happened on the N7 on-ramp along the N1 freeway near Goodwood on Tuesday evening, 18 January 2022.

FOUR MEN WERE ARRESTED FOR THE HEIST

Netshiunda said four men were arrested after the heist.

“It reported that a Jeep which was driving along the N7 stopped abruptly in the middle of the road, causing a light delivery vehicle to collide with the cash van. Suspects are alleged to have used explosives to blow the safe open. One vehicle is reported to have caught fire during the robbery,” Netshiunda said.

Members of the Durban National Intervention Unit responded to the robbery, and during the shootout, one suspect sustained a gunshot wound, whilst the other injured himself during the explosion.
