The man who a tiger recently mauled recalled the horrific moment the animal attacked him near his home in Walkerville Johannesburg.

WATCH AS THE MAN RECALLS THE TIGER ATTACK

Sheba, the tiger, was found and was subsequently euthanised.

Searches had been underway for the tiger, nicknamed Sheba, with as many as 30 people looking for the wild cat. Walkerville residents had been warned to be on high alert after the tiger escaped from a plot in the area on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Walkerville resident William Mokoena spoke to eNCA from his hospital bed.

He was walking home through a field from a shop when the tiger attacked him.

WILLIAM SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES TO HIS LEGS

According to William, he was about 500 meters from the shop owned by his cousin. He bent down to tie his shoes when he felt the tiger as it jumped on him.

William said he landed on his back with the tiger on his stomach, trying to go for his throat.

“I could clearly differentiate between it being a dog and a tiger due to its sound and weight.”

HE USED HIS FEET AND LEGS TO FIGHT BACK

He said he screamed and used his feet and legs to fight back. William’s cousin heard the shouting and ran with her husband to help William.

It is believed the tiger was scared off by the noise of the screaming people.
