But those expecting widespread and sweeping changes should perhaps manage their expectations. We don’t anticipate a move to Level 2 at this moment, and according to the Cabinet’s own utterances this week, only a few industries will see any meaningful alterations.
But of course, there is always the wildcard. We’ve had a few surprise announcements during these types of briefings before. Once Ramaphosa drops that ‘fellow South Africans’ line, it really is open season.
Hairdressing business, tattoo studios and sit-in restaurants are all likely to get the green-light to open again. There may also be developments in the accommodation industry, and beauty treatments are on course for relaxed regulations. This will all form part of our transition into Advanced Level 3.
