We promised that a Cabinet reshuffle was drawing near, and sure enough, South Africa will learn this evening about which ministers have been chopped and changed – but what time will Cyril Ramaphosa begin his live stream address?

Here’s what time Ramaphosa will announce a Cabinet reshuffle

Well, we were slated for a 20:30 kick-off on Thursday evening. That has now been pushed back to 21:00 instead The Cabinet reshuffle, it seems, cannot wait until tomorrow, and in a statement just issued by the Presidency, an announcement on these alterations is being made tonight.

“President Ramaphosa will make an announcement on changes to the national executive at 20:30 today [now changed to 21:00]. The address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and international audiences.”

Who could find themselves out of a job tonight?

Zweli Mkhize is, according to reports, already gone. The suspended Health Minister is absolutely banged to rights following the SIU’s report into Digital Vibes, which found that he had profited personally from the R150 million deal. Mkhize is understood to have handed in his resignation, just before this article was published.

Then there’s David Mabuza, who is likely to be a major talking point one way or the other. Our Deputy President – who also heads taskforces on Eskom and COVID-19 vaccines – has been routinely missing in action throughout the pandemic, largely due to health problems. He has just returned from a month of mysterious medical treatment in Russia.

If Ramaphosa’s right-hand man stays or goes, it’ll be one of the stories of the night. State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo and Police Minister Bheki Cele – both in the firing line after the July riots – are rumoured to be ‘under pressure’.
