Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will deliver his first State of the Province Address (SOPA) from the Johannesburg City Hall on Monday, 20 February. He assumed the position in October 2022.
As previously reported, some of the key promises Lesufi made when he took office last year included the acceleration of invoice payments, the introduction of new specialised schools, the refurbishment of hospitals, allocating funds for the creation of spaza shops for South Africans, establishing a provincial state bank, transforming the province’s hostels, and scrapping e-tolls.

The leader of the opposition in Gauteng, DA MPL Solly Msimanga, said MPLs no longer want empty promises and want the province’s residents to know that service delivery will be improved and the SOPA is not just about ticking boxes.
Msimanga wants Lesufi to detail exactly how he will make good on his promises and get Gauteng up and running again.
“The time for politicking is over, and service delivery needs to happen now. Our residents deserve a government that they can trust,” he said.
