“They are undocumented, but as you know, due to the heinous crime which they committed here, everyone who we found in the vicinity… we have to take them in, process them, and also check the linkages,” Kekana said.

Residents of this Krugersdorp village told the media that they were petrified.

RESIDENTS LIVE IN FEAR, SAYING THEY ARE PETRIFIED

The high crime levels were attributed to illegal miners in the area, known as the zama zamas, saying they have long terrorised residents.

Some were locals and others foreign nationals.

This comes after a crew of 22 people, 12 women and ten men, were busy filming a music video when they were allegedly attacked by a group of armed men clad in blankets.

“The suspects ordered everyone to lay down and proceeded to rape eight of the women and robbed everyone of their belongings before fleeing the scene.”

Police

Police said the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences are investigating 32 counts of rape following the rape of the eight women, as well as a case of armed robbery.
