THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The video shared by motorists shows a man sitting in a supermarket shopping trolley and racing on the N1 highway in the rain while holding onto the back of a fuel tanker.

On Monday, Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said authorities would investigate the footage. The trolley dasher, wearing a yellow hooded jacket with a cap inside, can be seen sitting down while clinging to the back of the moving truck.

THE TROLLEY DASHER WILL BE ARRESTED ONCE LOCATED

“The Gauteng traffic police are disappointed with the behavior of a hitchhiker who was seen traveling with a grocery trolley attached to a heavy motor vehicle yesterday on the 3rd of April on the N1 freeway in trainy conditions.

“Such behavior is both irresponsible and illegal and will never be tolerated by law enforcement authorities,” Maremane said.

He confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation and said the man or rather the trolley dasher would be brought to book soon.

Maremane warned that this offense could land the perpetrator behind bars for at least one year if convicted.
