The Hendrik Potgieter road in Gauteng has COLLAPSED after the recent floods. 

WATCH HOW THIS ROAD IN GAUTENG COLLAPSED

Several representatives of the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, a Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) representative and ward councillors are currently on the scene. 

According to DA Ward Councillor Zoné Hughes, the entire road is closed.

MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE AREA 

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternative routes.”

Zoné said they were waiting for a contractor and engineer to arrive.

“They are also trying to get more measures in place to ensure that no one passes the barriers.”

She furthermore said that it is expected that the nearby bridge could also collapse.

MOTORISTS SHOULD USE ALTERNATIVE ROUTES 

This comes after large sections of Hendrik Potgieter had been flooded earlier this week. 

Heavy rain hit Johannesburg overnight on Thursday, and flooding has been reported across the city.

THIS COMES AFTER RECENT FLASH FLOODS IN THE AREA 

On Friday morning, 9 December, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) advised residents about a number of bridge and road collapses.

The road infrastructure has been severely damaged in Roodepoort and Soweto.
