THE AIRLINE CONFIRMED THE INCIDENT

AirAsia confirmed in a statement that the incident took place but stated that it was a “very rare incident.”

The airline’s chief safety officer Liong Tien Ling told Business Insider the Captain decided to divert the aircraft to Kuching as a precautionary measure to fumigate the aircraft.

“The Captain took the appropriate action and the flight safely departed for Tawau as soon as possible. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew is always our top priority.”

The airline also said the snake injured nobody. It is not clear what type of snake was onboard.

THE VIDEO HAD MILLIONS OF VIEWS SINCE IT WAS UPLOADED

The video has had millions of views on TikTok since it was uploaded three days ago.

Some viewers commented that it was reminiscent of the 2006 Samuel L. Jackson action movie “Snakes on a Plane.”

According to NPR it’s not the first time snakes have found their way onto passenger flights.

In 2019, a woman traveling home to Scotland from Australia encountered a nasty surprise when she went to unpack and found a snake curled up in her luggage. There was even an occasion where a pilot had to conduct an emergency landing after finding a snake in the cockpit.
