Watch: Eskom case presenter verbally abuses and threatens journalist [video]

Former Eskom CEO Matshela Koko’s disciplinary hearing is keeping with the power utilities recent tradition of being a total disaster.

Eskom case

A disciplinary hearing for former acting Eskom CEO Matshela Koko took an even more disastrous turn on Friday evening. After the day’s proceedings had adjourned, the case presenter for Eskom became involved in a heated argument with journalists.

Sebetja Matsaung threatened and verbally abused Financial Times deputy editor Sikonathi Mantshantsha. He had to be physically held back as he told the journalist they can “take this outside now”.

After video footage of the incident quickly went viral, Eskom fired Matsaung on Saturday morning.

The power utility released a statement announcing Mantshantsha’s sacking.

“Eskom condemns Matsaung’s behaviour in the strongest terms possible. We wish to convey our unreserved apologies that this unfortunate incident occurred.”

The hearing will now be postponed for a further three days while Eskom looks for a new evidence leader.

This incident continues to drag Eskom’s name even further through the mud. While allegations and even proof of corruption are rife, violent and threatening behaviour is just as disgusting.
