Kids, don’t do drugs…

Emtee had us in stitches when he went on Instagram live to get a few issues off his chest. As funny as it was, we want to make it clear that we do not endorse the use of drugs… unless it is dagga, and you are enjoying it in your personal space. We don’t want to know where you got it. That we do not endorse, but anyway…

Who is Emtee?

If you were still sprawling down your city’s nightclub strip back in 2015 you would have, at some point, been inside a venue that had Emtee’s debut single, Roll Up, on heavy rotation.

Since then, the rapper, known by those close to him as Mthembeni Ndevu, has catapulted into one of South Africa’s local Trap-Hop (a drug-induced, high-tempo subgenre of Hip-Hop) powerhouses.

At only 26-years-old, Emtee has surmounted and impressive discography, with two platinum-selling, chart-topping albums, Avery (2015) and Manando (2017), and another successful EP, DIY2 (2018).

Watch: Emtee calls Cassper Nyovest ‘fat boy’ on Instagram live

It does not take a smoke detector to alert us that Emtee, in this video, is cooked off Mary Jane (colloquial term for marijuana). The rapper signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment had some things to get off his chest and one of the items on the agenda was Cassper Nyovest.

Emtee took issue with the fact that Cassper, the founder of the independent record label, Family Tree, had no children. This, according to Emtee, allowed him the right to measure this with the amount of responsibility he has.

We died in laughter when he referred to Cassper as “fat boy,,, Tsibip”. Emtee also aired out the rappers who rapped on Gqom beats. The boy that was raised under the tutelage of Manando cannot respect that.

Cassper responds to Emtee diss

Motswako’s last Jedi, Cassper, would not let something as entertaining as that video passed. So, he responded. Like the rest of us, he was in tears.

Clearly, the Family Tree founder did not take this threat seriously. Cassper even went as far as inviting Emtee out to his next #FillUp concert that is slated to be at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, in December. Not to perform, as other rappers will be, but to talk… If that is not petty.
