It is just disgraceful! A clerk working for the South African police service (SAPS) was caught on camera slapping a woman several times.

The video has since gone viral.

THE MAN IS SEEN SLAPPING THE WOMAN SEVERAL TIMES

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said on Thursday they are aware of the video.

“The Management of SAPS in Gauteng has noted with disappointment the video circulating in social media where one of the employees of SAPS appears to be slapping a woman.

Sello said the incident is condemned in the strongest possible terms.

‘AS POLICE WE ARE MANDATED TO PROTECT’

“As the SAPS, we are mandated to protect and serve and also fight against any incidents of violence, especially those perpetrated to women and children.”

Sello furthermore said the woman who was slapped in the video had opened a case of assault while the clerk opened a crimen injuria case.

“A departmental case has also been opened against the member in question, who is a clerk at a local police station,” Sello concluded.

‘AN INTERNAL DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE WILL BE CONDUCTED’

In the video, a man and the woman are seen having a heated exchange of words before the man steps forwards and repeatedly slaps the woman in her face,

It is not clear what resulted in the altercation between the two, but the man could repeatedly be heard asking why the woman insulted him, wherein the female also posed the same question back while being slapped.

According to a description of the video on Facebook, they could be heard saying the following:

“Why urana voestek, why un’rugà?” (why do you say voetsek, why are you insulting me) asks the lady, but the man throws a couple of slaps and says “utlo mpitsa marete? (are you calling me testicles) asks the man.
