Authorities are reportedly still searching for the Range Rover driver who dangerously drove through beachgoers in the water before ending up with a partially submerged SUV on Saturday.
A video of his dangerous show was shared all over social media. Another video shows the SUV stuck in the water with five people standing next to it. One walks out of the water.
The incident happened at Pelican Island located in the port of Richards Bay in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.
The spokesperson of uMhlathuze municipality, Mdu Ncalane, said the driver violated municipal bylaws and other regulations.
“He also posed danger to people who were at the river. The police are looking for him and will make an example out of him to show that breaking the law was unacceptable,” said Ncalane.
He said police were patrolling the entry point at Pelican Island and that it was not easy to control cars once they were inside.
Ncalane said the SUV was towed out of the river later on Saturday. He furthermore said it would be easy to find the driver since the trending videos showed the registration number of the SUV.
