Two suspects appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 January, in connection with the brutal murder of 18-year-old Wakeel Dreyer.

TWO ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY MURDERING WAKEEL DREYER

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Keanan Hendricks and Zane Adonis appeared before the local court charged with Dreyer’s murder.

“Their case has been postponed until 8 March 2023 for bail application,” said Ntabazalila.

Dreyer, a Grade 12 learner at Beacon Hill High School, was shot approximately 17 times on the eve of the release of his matric results on Thursday afternoon, 19 January.

Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said the teenager was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Dreyer’s mother, Lucinda Roberts, told News24 she believes her son was at the wrong place at the wrong time. “I have no answers as to why they shot him so many times, but I pray that whoever did this to my boy will be caught and justice be served upon them. They took my only child away; we had a whole day planned together for the release of the results because it would’ve also been his valedictory today at school,” she said.
