Former Member of Parliament and ActionSA Western Cape Chairperson who was among the first to sound the alarm on State Capture, Vytjie Mentor, has reportedly passed away.

This was revealed by ActionSA President Herman Mashaba on Tuesday, 23 August.

VYTJIE MENTOR HAS DIED

In a statement, Mashaba said Vytjie had been ill for some time and her family called the party to inform them that she had succumbed to her illness after being hospitalised for several months.

Mashaba added that it should not be forgotten that Vytjie Mentor was the first to sound the alarm on what is today called “State Capture”.

In her testimony at the State Capture Commission, Mentor spoke of how she was offered a ministerial position by the Guptas, in exchange for cancelling SAA’s routes to India, and how she turned it down.

Mentor also served as a Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2014 before joining ActionSA as its Provincial Chairperson in the Western Cape, however, she stepped down in June this year due to ill-health.

The 58-year-old has been described by the party as a true patriot who served her country even in the face of criticism.

ActionSA also extended its most heartfelt condolences to the Mentor family for their loss.

“We will keep the family and friends of Vytjie in our thoughts and prayers and ask that her loved ones be given the privacy to grieve during this time. May her soul rest in peace.”
