Soshanguve protests have delivered dramatic chaos as residents demanded service delivery in the subsection of Rosslyn on Tuesday 16 November.

SOSHANGUVE PROTESTS: VIDEO OF HOUSE DEMOLISHING

While earlier reports on social media drew limited attention since the start of the day, one eyewitness in the area managed to capture the moment as two bulldozers took down a house in the North Pretoria location.

According to The Citizen’s reporter Narissa Subramoney, the scene is part of the service delivery protests that struck the neighbourhood on Tuesday.

It is however not clear who are the attackers behind the bulldozers’ wheels are, and to whom the demolished house belongs to.

The reporter added that the violence included the burning of several vehicles as part of the larger Soshanguve protests.

MEC CONFIRMS TORCHED VEHICLES

Meanwhile, Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Thabo Charles Mabaso, confirmed that the events are indeed a complaint against service delivery.

Mabaso said that a number of vehicles were set on fire since the event began on Tuesday morning.

“It was reported to us around 10am that there were service protests with a vehicle on fire. We dispatched a fire truck and when they arrived, they found a light motor vehicle as well as a truck on fire,” Mabaso told IOL.

“The firefighters managed to extinguish that and once they had left to refill their vehicle, another vehicle, a truck, was also reported to have been set alight. We had to dispatch additional resources.”

Mabaso added to confirm that two persons have been rushed to hospital after suffering serious burns.

“Law enforcement agencies are on the scene and our crews are working close with them to attend emergencies related to the protest,” Mabaso concluded.
