Watch: Four-year-old locked in bathroom, grandad blocks door in Verulam

This Verulam video break-in attempt gives many scary short films a run for their money. The footage was shared by leading KZN security company Reaction Unit South Africa on Monday.

So what took place?

VERULAM: GRANDFATHER BLOCKS DOOR BREAK-IN

Four suspects jumped into a yard in Redcliffe before forcing a bulgar gate open but still failed to take any steps into the house – thanks to an elderly man’s determined efforts.

According to the shocking report, a four-year-old girl locked herself in the bathroom while her 75-year-old man grandad blocked the door the four suspects were attempting to break down.

Also in the home with the elderly man was his wife and the young girl’s mother. Unbelievably, the break-in attempt happened in broad daylight at no later than 13:18.

“A four-year-old girl locked herself in the bathroom while her 75-year-old grandfather prevented four armed suspects from gaining entry into their Sunkist Drive, Redcliffe – KZN home today,” RUSA said.

“The robbers bent the security gate and were attempting to kick down the door. The elderly victim held the door from inside the house. His 4-year-old granddaughter locked herself in the bathroom.”

SUSPECTS FAILED AND FLED

RUSA confirmed that the Verulam house break-in attempt was an eventual failure when the suspects gave up and left the scene.

A single gun bullet was found near the door after the suspects sped away with a white Ford bakkie.

“The robbers fled after they failed to gain entry. The incident was captured on CCTV (video posted in comments). A 9mm bullet was recovered next to the kitchen door.

“The suspects fled in a white Ford Ranger Club Cab with an unknown registration. The victims were not physically injured but were in a state of shock.”
