Vehicle thieves arrested in Sandton were found with military jammer

Three vehicle thieves were arrested by the JMPD K9 Unit for fraud, possession of car breaking implements and a signal jammer

Three male suspected vehicle thieves were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for fraud, possession of car breaking implements and a signal jammer.

VEHICLE THIEVES RUN OUT OF LUCK IN SANDTON

The suspects aged between 22 and 48 were nabbed at Corllet Drive and Oxford Road in Illovo, Sandton.

“On Monday 8 August 2022, whilst conducting crime prevention patrols, officers received a call for backup after private security officers had spotted a silver BMW X5 which was used by perpetrators in stealing Toyota Prados, Lexus Suvs, Toyota Fortuners and Toyota Hilux bakkies in the Sandton area,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

“The officers responded and the vehicle with three male occupants was stopped,”he added.

“Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle was affixed with false registration numbers. The vehicle was searched and officers recovered car breaking implements and a military signal jammer”.

The JMPD spokesperson said all three male suspects were arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station.

“They will appear in court in due course,” he said.

“The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound for verification”.

JMPD TEST VEHICLE POSITIVE FOR CRIMIMAL ACTIVITIES

Prior to this successful arrest, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department K9 Unit attended a complaint regarding a suspicious Gold Toyota Yaris on Saturday, 6 August.

The vehicle was tested and the result came out positive as being used to commit various crimes as per Protea Glen Police Station.

The vehicle was seized and booked in at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Aeroton pound for further investigation.
