On Saturday evening 7 November 2020, it was announced by various US networks that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be taking up office in the White House after the state of Pennsylvania was turned blue. Not only did they win the state for the democrats but Biden managed to surpass the mark of 270 electoral college votes, meaning Donald Trump was trumped.

Following the announcement, Harris took to Twitter saying that the US election is about so much more than her or Biden.

“It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started,” she said.

Shortly after, she posted a video of herself on the phone with Biden. She can be heard saying; “We did it Joe, you’re going to be the next president of the United States”.

Biden also released a brief statement on his website saying;

“I am honoured and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris.”

“In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America. With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation,” he said.

“It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do if we do it together,” he added.

Former US President Barack Obama also released a statement saying; “Congratulations to my friends, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris — our next President and Vice President of the United States.

HERE’S WHAT TRUMP HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE WIN

According to Bloomberg, Trump was at his golf course in Northern Virginia when the race was called. He issued a statement continuing “to attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the election with unfounded accusations of widespread voter fraud.”

“This election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor,” he said.
