A woman faces animal cruelty-related charges after she apparently threw her injured puppy into the ocean. Police in Tybee Island, Georgia, in the United States (US) have arrested Candy Selena Marban on Tuesday, 21 September 2021, just days after receiving a 911 phone call in relation to the incident.

“At approximately 3PM on Sunday, September 12, 2021, the Tybee Island Police Department received a 911 call in reference to people throwing an injured puppy into the ocean. When officers arrived on scene, they found the puppy curled up in the sand and nursing an obvious injury,” police said.

Marban explained to police that her dog had sustained some injuries during an accident just a week prior and didn’t have the money to seek medical treatment, so she opted to toss him into the sea. They ultimately issued her a city ordinance citation for Cruelty to Animals and took the puppy into protective custody.

Puppy to be euthanised

In a rather unfortunate ending to the story, police say a local veterinarian who attended to Candy Selena Marban’s puppy found that it had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries.

“Members of the Tybee Island Police Department then transported the animal for emergency medical treatment in Savannah. After a thorough examination, the veterinarian determined that the extent of the animal’s injuries was so severe that the only recourse would be euthanasia,”

This then lead to law enforcement securing a search warrant against Marban on the felony charge of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. They soon shared a post of her on Facebook, asking the public to help locate her.

“That post was shared over 2,000 times in less than 24 hours, leading to abundance of tips in regards to Marban and her whereabouts. On Tuesday, September 21, Marban was successfully placed under arrest without incident,” police added.
