As incoming President Joe Biden and his wife Dr Jill Biden prepare themselves for life in the White House, Donald Trump and his family are all set to leave what has been their home for the past four years.
Trump is expected to leave Washington at 15:00 (CAT) to make way for the Bidens. The outgoing president will be jetting to his luxury resort in Miami, Florida – where he will begin his post-presidential life alongside his wife Melania.
What has the Trump family said about leaving Washington?
In his final address to the nation, Donny listed some of his achievements during his tumultuous tenure and further condemned the chaos which broke out during the Capitol recently.
“As I prepare to hand power over to a new administration at noon on Wednesday, I want you to know that the movement we started is only just beginning. There’s never been anything like it,” Trump said.
“The belief that a nation must serve its citizens will not dwindle but instead only grow stronger by the day.”
Outgoing First Lady Melania Trump has also reflected on her journey, and said she was inspired by her predecessors.
“As First Lady, and as the temporary custodian of this national treasure, I was inspired by the example of my predecessors. Their reverence for the White House, and their love of history ensured the long-term preservation of the building in which they both served and lived,” she said.
“In similar fashion, the projects that I have overseen during the last four years are ones which I believe will not only preserve the house’s heritage but enhance the experience of its beauty and solemnity for generations to come”
Trump’s son Eric has used his farewell message to thank members of the secret service.
“A special thank you to the incredible men and women of the United States (Secret Service) You know who you are — you are truly incredible people and Lara and I are so fortunate to call so many of you friends,” he tweeted.
Depending on who you ask, the Trump family has had an interesting four years in office. Apart from Donald Trump’s own scandals, his wife and children have also managed to generate almost as much controversy as their father.
