The urgent disruption of water supply is not a new phenomenon in the City of Cape Town. Meanwhile, two months ago (September), the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate announced water disruptions that would go on for three days.

Zahid Badroodien, the MAYCO member for Water and Sanitation, would say the water shutdown was ‘absolutely necessary to preserve existing infrastructure.
“This shutdown is necessary to conduct crucial maintenance work on an important section of our bulk water supply network. While we regret the inconvenience, delaying work is an even greater risk to our supply. It is being done over a weekend to minimise the impact on residents,” Badroodien said previously.
