Update: Still no sign of six-year-old boy missing at sea

The IPSS said on Friday there had been no new developments in the incident involving the child missing at sea on the North Coast.

Search operations for the missing six-year-old boy on the North Coast have been scaled back, and searches will be conducted intermittently or initiated upon positive sitings. 

“THIS IS THE NORMAL COURSE OF ACTION.”

The  IPSS Medical Rescue said it is the normal course of action for prolonged incidents of this nature. 

“We wish to thank the many people and services who came out to assist in searching. We extend our sympathy to the affected.” 

The six-year-old boy went still missing at sea on Saturday, 21 August 2021, after the child went for a swim with his mother.

A search and rescue operation was mobilised in an attempt to locate the little boy.

A mother and her child were in the water at an unprotected beach when the pair lost their footing and were swept out to sea.

“The mother was helped back to shore; however, the young child is yet to be located.”

“IPSS Medical Rescues advanced life support paramedics, together with IPSS Search and Rescue division, SAPS Search and Rescue, Metro Police Rescue as well as the NSRI searched for the child.” 

Watercraft, drones, and foot patrols were also deployed.

Meanwhile, an 8-year-old boy was stabbed and brutally murdered allegedly by his mother’s boyfriend when the couple fought.

THE LITTLE BOY WAS DECLARED DEAD IN HIS OWN HOME

According to Captain Malcolm Pojie, the little boy had already succumbed to multiple injuries, including stab wounds to his body, when police arrived on the scene.

He said police found what they believe is the murder weapon, a knife, inside the residence. The knife was handed in as evidence.

It is believed the mother of the 8-year-old boy and her boyfriend fought.

Pojie said the couple turned up at the Thembalethu SAPS Community Service Centre, with the disturbing allegations that the 23-year-old boyfriend had killed the 8-year-old boy.

Police were immediately dispatched to the house, where they made the gruesome discovery.

The 8-year-old Imange Jantjies was declared dead on the scene.

The boyfriend was immediately arrested.
