UPDATE: Nine-year-old girl died after Durban drive-by shooting

The nine-year-old girl who was shot during a drive-by shooting in Durban has died. Two other people were also killed.

Paramedics said the nine-year-old girl who was shot during a drive-by shooting in Durban has died. Two other people were also killed.

A VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK WAS FOUND SPRAYED WITH HIGH-CALIBRE BULLET HOLES

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the little girl died on arrival at the hospital.

Paramedics said a man and a woman were killed, while the nine-year-old girl was critically injured in a drive-by shooting in Durban on Tuesday.

Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 14h30 on Tuesday on Peters Road in Springfield Park.

WOMAN AND MAN SITTING IN FRONT WERE SHOT AND KILLED

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, a Volkswagen Amarok was found to have been sprayed with high-calibre bullet holes.

“Two occupants in the front of the vehicle, an adult male and female, were declared dead on arrival of paramedics.

“A teenage female who was seated in the back of the vehicle was found in a critical condition.”

THE TEENAGER SITTING IN THE BACK WAS CRITICALLY INJURED

Van Reenen said advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilize the teenager, and due to her extensive injuries, she went into a state of cardiac arrest.

“CPR efforts were successful, and she was rushed by ambulance under the care of an Emergency Care Practitioner to a nearby hospital for further care.”

He furthermore said the facts surrounding the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.

This comes shortly after the fatal shooting of two men on Carters Avenue in Berea. The shootings are about 6km apart. It is not yet clear if the shootings are related.

THE SHOOTING HAPPENED ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, paramedics responded at around noon on Tuesday.

“At around noon on Tuesday, Emer-G-Med paramedics and ALS paramedic services responded to the scene of a shooting incident in Carters Avenue in the Berea.”

TWO MEN WERE FOUND WITH MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS

He said on arrival on the scene, two men were found with multiple gunshot wounds.

“The first was declared dead on arrival of paramedics whilst the other was found in a critical condition. Advanced life support resuscitation efforts were attempted; however, the man succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.”
