Street Sleeper is an NPO that takes billboards destined to become landfill, and turns them into survival sleeping bags that create protection from the elements at night, and can be used as a backpack by day.

It’s not just about the sleeping bags, though. Street Sleeper believes that with every bag that is purchased, lies the opportunity for a new friendship to be formed, for barriers to be broken down, and for stigmas to be erased.

Street Sleeper not only makes sleeping bags but creates employment opportunities by hiring previously unemployed people. The company prides itself on transparency and has information on where the money from each donation goes on their website.

Members of the public can get involved by purchasing a sleeping bag for R150 from www.streetsleeper.org or from the factory in Cape Town.

People who do not reside in Cape Town can order bags online, and if ten or more bags are ordered, they will be couriered to any city in South Africa. Street Sleeper encourages friends and colleagues to team up in buying ten (or more) bags as a community or work initiative.
