The Democratic Alliance-run uMngeni Local Municipality has achieved an Unqualified Audit Opinion that affirms that the municipality’s finances are transparent and in good standing.

The DA had inherited a Qualified Audit from the African National Congress (ANC) government when it took over after the 2021 Local Government Elections.

UMNGENI MUNICIPALITY’S FINANCES ARE HEALTHY

DA KZN leader, Francois Rodgers said when they took over in 2021, they promised residents a transparent government that prioritises service delivery and that the audit outcome is evident of the work the party has done to showcase its reliable governance.

“We are fixing streetlights, repairing potholes, creating job opportunities instead of lining our own pockets with your hard-earned money. The 2024 Elections will allow residents of KwaZulu-Natal the opportunity to also choose a reliable and accountable DA government,” Rodgers said.

In October this year, the DA in KZN announced that in just 11 months of governance, the uMngeni Municipality managed to pay off a R10.4 million loan making it debt free.

After taking over uMngeni, Mayor Pappas was interviewed about the state of the municipality in December 2021 on the DA channel on YouTube.

“It’s horrible, the finances on a state – there no standard operating procedures, there has been incredible political interference and there is a lot of work to do,” he reflected.

Weighing in on the the local municipality paying off its loan, party leader, Rodgers said under the governance of Mayor Chris Pappas and his team, the DA has managed to wipe off all debt created by the ANC.

“The savings of almost half a million can now be spent on service delivery for the residents of uMngeni. UMngeni is testimony that the DA gets things done,” he said.
