An alleged unidentified flying object (UFO) has conspiracy theorists in a spin, less than a week after thousands of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) UFO-related intelligence documents were released online. More on that later.

First, let’s take a look at the most recent “sighting” – straight out of North Dakota in the Great Plains of the USA – which has many people believing that alien existence on our beloved planet could be real.

North Dakota UFO sighting

Scott C Waring, a self-styled alien hunter and well-known conspiracy theorist, shared a video of the alleged sighting on YouTube after it was submitted to the MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) this month.

The footage shows what at first appears to be the Sun on a bright day. However, once zoomed it, the object appears to be made up of several parts with pulsating lights on its body.

Waring believes the short video clip is “irrefutable proof” of an alien presence on Earth. He writes on his website, UFO Sightings Daily, that “the lights didn’t fly away, but were hovering in place in the fog”.

According to Waring, the footage was taken on 9 January 2021 in Fargo, North Dakota. The person who recorded the footage said he finished work at 7:20 local time and was sitting at the stoplight when he saw the glowing object.

CIA’s collection of UFO documents

The CIA this month released 2 780 pages of declassified records to the public which details the US government’s findings on unidentified flying objects (UFOs). These reports have been classified since the 1980s.

The documents were posted online when John Greenewald Jr successfully filed a series of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and obtained the newly digitised documents.

Greenewald Jr explained that some of the documents were released in the late 1990s and that the CIA made a digital collection of all UFO documents, “which encompassed the original records”.

After purchasing the collection in mid-2020, Greenewald Jr spent months converting the contents into searchable PDF files. This was the culmination of decades of work on his part. He told Vice’s Samir Ferdowsi:

“Around 20 years ago, I had fought for years to get additional UFO records released from the CIA. It was like pulling teeth! I went around and around with them to try and do so, finally achieving it. I received a large box, of a couple of thousand pages, and I had to scan them in one page at a time”.

The complete collection of PDF files can be access for free Greenewald Jr’s site, The Black Vault.
