Two suspects arrested for possession of stolen vehicle in Soweto

Two suspects were arrested in possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to bribe officers in Soweto.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE

Detailing the arrest, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the two male suspects between the ages of 39 and 22 years were arrested in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and for bribery by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit in Dlamini, Soweto yesterday.

“On Thursday afternoon, 01 September 2022 whilst conducting crime prevention patrols at Chris Hani Road in Dlamini officers stopped a White Nissan NP200 for a routine check,” he said.

Fihla added that the vehicle was searched and inspected and it was discovered that the VIN number was tempered with.

“Upon further inspection officers found another VIN number on the vehicle that did not match the VIN in the engine compartment.”

The officers conducted a vehicle inquiry using the ENatis system and found that the vehicle was stolen and sought as per the Florida SAPS case.

“The suspects were informed that the vehicle was reported stolen, and they offered the officers a R1000 bribe,” he explained.

Fihla further explained that the suspects were placed under arrest and detained at Moroka Police Station.

CRIMINALS ARRESTED FOR ROBBING A STUDENT

They will appear in court in due course.

Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested by Bad Boyz Security and JMPD officers after they had robbed a student of two cell phones using toy guns at De Beer and De Korte Streets in Braamfontein.

In their attempt to flee after robbing the student, the suspects’ vehicle overturned at Jan Smuts Ave and M1, and were apprehended.

The two cell phones, three registration plates and two toy guns were recovered.
