Police said two people were shot and killed while six other people were injured during a traditional dance rehearsal in KZN.

Two people were shot dead, while six others were injured during a shooting at a traditional dance rehearsal in KwaZulu-Natal. 

SHOTS WERE FIRED THROUGH BOTH WINDOWS 

According to police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala the shooting happened in Ulundi on Friday night. 

“It is alleged that last night at 21:00, there was a rehearsal for a traditional Zulu dance (ingoma) in a rondavel at Dumaneni area in Ulundi, when shots were fired through both windows.” 

He said during the shooting, two people aged 38 and 39 were fatally wounded.

“Six people were injured and transported to a hospital for medical attention. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Ulundi SAPS for investigation.” 

POLICE RESPONDED QUICKLY AND ARRESTED ONE MAN 

Gwala furthermore said the Ulundi detectives immediately commenced with their investigation and successfully arrested a 27-year-old man.

The man is expected to appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrates Court next week.

Last month, in another bizarre shooting, a groom and four other people were shot and killed during the conclusion of a traditional wedding ceremony in the Eastern Cape.

FIVE PEOPLE SITTING AT A RONDAVEL WAS GUNNED DOWN 

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, the shooting happened on Saturday, 23 October 2021, while the family gathered again on Saturday to wrap up and conclude the ceremony.

“It is alleged that while the five deceased men aged between 30 and 50 were sitting in one of the rondavels in the homestead, unidentified male suspects appeared and started shooting and killing all of them at the scene. They thereafter disappeared without a trace. The number of the suspects is also unknown.” 

Kinana said the motive for the shooting and killings is not known at this stage. The police have registered five murder cases for investigation.
