Two Reiger Park grandma’s arrested in R70 000 drug bust

Two grandmothers and two young men were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs in Reiger Park.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, drug enforcement unit has arrested two grandmothers from Reiger Park and two young men with drugs worth R70 000.

GRANDMOTHERS ARRESTED IN DRUG BUST

The grandmothers are both in their 60s, and the men are in their 20s. The four are facing drug-related charges.

EMPD spokesperson Katlego Mphahlele says the EMPD drug enforcement unit received a tip-off from a community concerned about three individuals selling drugs.

The police officers followed up on information at a house in Reiger Park, where they arrested two young men and the two grandmothers for drugs. They were arrested on Friday, 17 February 2023.

“Officers intercepted the culprits at their Clearance September Street home,” says Mphahlele.

The 60-year-old and 65-year-old grandmothers were arrested at their Reiger Park home for drug possession and dealing.

The other two suspects are 21-year-old and 23-year-old male suspects.

Police found crystal meth valued at R69 900 in their possession.

The four face charges of possession and possible dealing with illicit substances. They will appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court soon.

TWO ARRESTED FOR SELLING DRUGS TO LEARNERS

In an unrelated incident, police arrested two Nigerian nationals for selling drugs to learners at two schools near Flora Park Dam in Limpopo on Thursday, 16 February.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit in collaboration with Crime Intelligence received information about a 41-year-old Nigerian who was allegedly selling drugs to learners at Northern Academy Secondary and Flora Park Secondary schools which are adjacent to Flora Park Dam.
