Southern Cape police have not made any progress in the baffling disappearance of Norwegian student, Marie Ostbo, two months ago.

How did Marie Ostbo disappear?

Marie arrived in Sedgefield, a small tourist attractive town on the Garden Route, with a group of international students. She and the rest of the group were only meant to be there for a total of six days.

However, only a few days into their visit, she went missing, not leaving behind a single clue of where she might have gone or what could have possibly happened to her.

When was Marie last seen alive?

Police suspected foul play at first but quickly ruled that out as a possible reason for her disappearance, citing that they had not found any clues suggesting that the student’s disappearance was staged.

This is what the police know: she was caught on CCTV footage the day she disappeared, leaving a restaurant and heading towards the Sedgefield. Police say that they have not been able to obtain anything else that helps them track where she may have gone next.

Searching the area she was last seen, the police only found a cellphone, a cap and shoes, which were later identified as her belongings. Officers are working closely with Norwegian police and they are doing what they can to help in finding out what has happened to Marie.

Norwegian authorities assist with the case

Malcolm Poje of the Southern Cape police department commented on the case, stating that “although the search has been stopped, we are still investigating the circumstances around the missing Norwegian girl. We’ve also engaged with the Norwegian police, who are assisting us in this regard…Unfortunately, at this stage, we haven’t found any new clues to assist us”.
