Police have on Wednesday, 28 February 2023 arrested two males suspected to be part of a syndicate stealing high-end valued SUVs around Gauteng.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said that the arrest took place in Germiston minutes after they stole another vehicle.

POLICE RECEIVED TIP-OFF

“Information was received about a syndicate that is stealing high-end vehicles in Gauteng and that they are driving in different vehicles. A team of law enforcement agencies consisting of South African Police Service Crime Intelligence, Tracker Connect, Gauteng Traffic Police Saturation Unit and Badboyz Security operationalised the information and went on a lookout for the suspects.

“In Bedfordview on Tuesday, the team spotted the suspects driving in two vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Kia Rio. Both vehicles were followed until they stopped outside the residential premises in Roodekop, Germiston. The team pounced on the suspects and conducted an investigation that revealed that the Toyota Land Cruiser had just been stolen in Bedfordview and that the Kia Rio was fitted with false registration plates. Two suspects, aged 40 and 41, were arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of vehicle theft and break-in implements,” said Masondo.

SUSPECT APPEARED IN COURT

The suspects were expected to appear at the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 01 March 2023, facing charges of theft of motor vehicles and possession of vehicle theft and break-in implements.

IN A SEPARATE ACCIDENT

The South African previously reported that a male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two signal jammers at 14th Avenue, Fairland, Johannesburg on Tuesday evening 25 October 2022.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla while travelling home officers were flagged down by Fidelity security officials who needed assistance regarding a stolen Lexus LX570 SUV and a male suspect who they had apprehended in possession of the vehicle.

“The security officials explained to the officers that the vehicle was stolen at Malanshof, Randburg, and the male found in possession of the stolen vehicle was also in possession of two signal jammers,” said Fihla.
