TWO MEN DECLARED DEAD AFTER WALL COLLAPSE IN KWAMASHU, KZN

According to KZN SAPS Colonel Thembeka Mbele, two men died at about 2:00 on Thursday morning when their neighbour’s wall structure collapsed on their shack.

According to Mbele, the wall collapsed while the men were sleeping. The bodies were found under debris and have since been identified as 28-year-old Simo Mkhize and 25-year-old Nathi Mbatha. At 11:23 on Thursday morning, Mbele said the crime scene was still active.

According to reports, a mudslide led to the wall collapse which essentially damaged two homes. Mbele, however, could not confirm this.

CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED IN RANDBURG STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE

The tragic incident in KwaMashu, KZN is not the only structural collapse that resulted in death this month. Roughly two weeks ago, on 10 February 2021, a structural collapse in Boskruin, Randburg claimed the life of a male construction worker.

A spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Robert Mulaudzi said a house in the suburbs of Randburg was being renovated, therefore, construction workers were present. He said that in between 14:30 and 15:00, the workers fell from scaffolding and while two of them sustained minor injuries, the third fell into the house and was hit with a concrete slab which sadly resulted in his death.

“City of Joburg EMS Urban Search and Rescue Team recovered the body of [a] 30-year-old construction worker who lost his life during a structural collapse incident in Boskruin this afternoon,” he said.

The other two workers were transported to the nearest healthcare facility for further medical care.
