Two men killed, six children critically injured in a horrific accident in JHB

Paramedics said both drivers were killed in the head-on accident in Johannesburg while six children were critically injured.

Six children were critically injured while both drivers were killed when a minibus transporting school children collided with a car in Johannesburg.

THE FATAL ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

According to Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the accident at 17H28 on Wednesday afternoon on Marina Street in Nietgedacht Johannesburg.

“Reports from the scene indicate that a school kombi and bakkie had been involved in a head-on collision.

“On scene was Emer-G-Med, City of Johannesburg Fire and Rescue Services, Fire Ops, SAPS, Gauteng provincial government EMS as well as multiple other services.”

He said paramedics assessed the scene and found that the drivers of both vehicles had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.

“Six children from the school transport vehicle had sustained critical injuries and were treated on scene.”

ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said it is believed that three critical children and one seriously injured child were airlifted by two private medical helicopter services to a hospital while other ambulance services on scene transported at least two other children to the hospital for further care.

Campbell said it is also believed that a female teacher was also amongst those injured in the minibus collision.

“City of Joburg Fire, JMPD, SAPS, GPG along with multiple other private services were all on the scene to help as well as for investigation.”
