Two Hawks officers were granted bail in the Pretoria Central Magistrates’ Court, while a traditional healer was granted bail in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Two Hawks officers and a traditional healer were granted bail in various Pretoria Magistrates’ Courts on Monday.

Two Hawks officers were granted bail in the Pretoria Central Magistrates’ Court, while a traditional healer was granted bail in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Two officers from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, as well as a traditional healer, were arrested over the weekend and released on bail on Monday. 

THREE SUSPECTS WERE GRANTED BAIL

The three suspects appeared in court on Monday on charges ranging from theft, dealing in ammunition, defeating the ends of justice, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.

Hawks Lieutenant Colonel Refiloe Mnisi who was charged with theft and dealing in ammunition was granted bail of R3000, whilst Captain Thandi Mooka who was charged with defeating the ends of justice was granted bail of R2000. 

The case is postponed for further investigation and both will appear again in the Pretoria Central Magistrates` Court on the 27 June.

Meanwhile, traditional healer Nonhlanhla Elizabeth Chabalala who appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates` Court was granted bail of R1000 and will appear again on 12 July.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo says the trio were arrested on Friday, 27 May.

They were bust in a sting operation by Hawks Pretoria Serious Organized Crime, National Priority Violent Crimes and Tactical Operations Management Section. 

Mnisi and Mooka are stationed at the National Hawks Headquarters in Supply Chain Management.

Hawks received information about Hawks Lieutenant Colonel Mnisi who intended to supply police ammunition to Chabalala was received, which culminated in a sting operation being conducted. 

The traditional healer was subsequently arrested at her home in Soshanguve after the exchange was made. She was charged with illegal possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property following the seizure of other items suspected to belong to the state. 

Further investigation led to the arrest of Mnisi who was charged with theft and dealing in ammunition whilst Hawks Captain Mooka was arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice after it was discovered that she tried to conceal evidence in this matter.
