Police officers’ persistence and determination resulted in the arrest and detention of three males in two separate incidents for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and abalone.

One arrested for possession of drugs and an unlicenced firearm

On Wednesday, 15 February 2023, Ravensmead police acted on a tip and went to an address in Pinedene Street.

They searched the premises and found mandrax tablets, methamphetamine, and a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Their persistence paid off when they confiscated the items and arrested an 18-year-old man.

Two arrested for being in possession of abalone

In an unrelated incident, an integrated operation led to the arrest of two suspects in Gansbaai on Friday, 17 February 2023.

The team set up a vehicle checkpoint on the R43 between Gansbaai and Stanford and stopped a suspicious minibus taxi.

They searched the vehicle and the occupants and confiscated 3608 units of abalone.

This has an estimated to have a street value of R1.4 million.

Two men, aged 23 and 29, were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of abalone.

The Johannesburg Police Department commended the officers involved for their commitment to apprehending the perpetrators.
