Former SASCOC chief Tubby Reddy confirmed dead on Wednesday

Following a few years out of the limelight, the contentious former SASCOC chief Tubby Reddy passed away earlier this morning.

It has been confirmed that Tubby Reddy, the one-time chief executive of the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), has passed away on the morning of Wednesday 17 November 2021.

Tubby Reddy confirmed dead on Wednesday

The controversial character was forced to defend himself from scandal during his time at the top, and was eventually fired from his SASCOC role in 2018. However, Tubby Reddy had previously been commended for his ability to solve issues swiftly. The 62-year-old also courted plenty of enemies while in charge of the Olympic Committee.

Ex-SASCOC chief passes away

Sam Ramsamy went public with the news earlier today. Reddy, a long-suffering diabetic, is said to have passed away just after 6:00. Ramsamy was a former colleague of the SASCOC executive.

As reported by Times Live, Tubby Reddy had been battling with a severe illness over the past few days. Sadly, he couldn’t recover from this ailment, and he now leaves behind a wife and three children.

In a saga that eventually got Tubby Reddy fired from SASCOC, he came under investigation for sending lewd images and messages to female staff. One of the complainants had her work computer hacked and a forged message sent on her behalf. The fake email apologised for defaming the character of Mr. Reddy and blamed the accusations on peer pressure.

The letter claimed that the harassed woman was ‘apologising sincerely to Tubby and his family, for putting them through this senseless and unnecessary hurt and smear campaign’ – and the fallout was nuclear for the ex-SASCOC chief.
