A truck reportedly careened off the roadway ploughing into a classroom full of learners in Cosmo City, Johannesburg.

At least 15 learners were injured when a truck ploughed into a classroom in Cosmo City, Johannesburg, in Gauteng. 

The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, 18 January. 

TRUCK PLOUGHS INTO CLASSROOM 

According to emergency service, Emer-G-Med, they responded to a school in the Cosmo City area of Johannesburg just before 11:00.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said on arrival at the scene a truck was found to have careened off the roadway ploughing into a classroom full of learners.

“Fifteen learners aged between fourteen and eighteen years of age suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”

THREE CHILDREN KILLED IN SALVOKOP 

In a separate incident, the driver of a BMW sedan which ploughed into several pedestrians killing three children in Salvokop, Pretoria allegedly fled the scene. The horrific accident happened near a traffic circle on 6th and Koch Street at Salvokop in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon, 7 January 2023.

According to emergency service, Emer-G-Med, the BMW sedan was found to have left the roadway, striking seven pedestrians and killing three of them.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said twin four-year-old sisters were found killed as well as a third four-year-old little girl. Four adults suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

“The driver was not located on the scene and is alleged to have fled following the collision. The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly,” he said.

Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Deputy-Chief Charles Mabaso said emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find multiple patients scattered around the scene with the sedan under a partially collapsed tree.
