It’s not just a truck driver problem

It is evident that the disregard for the height restriction on bridges is not just a truck driver problem. This after a bus got stuck as well

It is evident that the disregard for the height restriction on bridges is not just a truck driver problem.

TRUCK DRIVERS ARE NOT ONLY GUILTY PARTY

This after an image of a long-distance bus, City to City, trended on social media after it got stuck under a bridge in Durban.

The bus attempted to drive below the bridge leading to Greyville Racecourse but this failed and led to damages to the bus and bridge infrastructure.

WHAT STIRRED UP THE PROBLEM

The whole issue of heavy-duty vehicle incompetence or total disregard for South African rules of the road was thrust into the spotlight after a hazardous carrier exploded in Boksburg after it got stuck under a bridge. The incident led to multiple casualties.

This was also exacerbated by a truck ferrying cars that almost got stuck on the N1 inbound in Cape Town.

The City of Cape Town mayoral committee member for safety and security Alderman JP Smith reported on a truck that barely made it below a bridge on the N1 inbound in the province.

According to the report, the truck driver had to drive slowly past the bridge and avoided damaging the luxury cars that were being transported.

SMITH NOT HAPPY WITH HEAVY-DUTY BEHAVIOUR

However, Smith was still not impressed with the disregard for the simplest rules of the road.

“Even with a simple road rule covered in the K53 Learners License test: “Keep left, pass right.” On any road with at least 2 lanes, including highways and freeways, motorists should always keep to the left and only use the right-hand lane when overtaking.
But so often, slower vehicles can be seen idling along on the right, causing a backlog of irate drivers behind them. South Africa needs to get back to the basics, but what if not all drivers understand what the basics really are?” he vented.
