Traffic restrictions in place for Joburg State of the City Address on 4 May

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department on Monday 3 May 2021 issued a Traffic Advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday, ahead of the State of the City Address (SOCA).

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department, on Monday 3 May 2021, issued a Traffic Advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday, ahead of the State of the City Address (SOCA).

The police department confirmed that “traffic restrictions will come in effect for the SOCA taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday [4 and 5 May] at the Metro Centre Braamfontein”.

SOCA traffic restrictions

According to the Metro Police Department, “officers will be deployed to regulate traffic” from 7:00 until 16:00 on both days. The affected routes are as follows:

  • Harrison Street and Jorrisen Street
  • Rissik Street and De Korte Street
  • Boulevard Street and Hoofd Street

In addition, Jorrisen Street will be closed off to traffic on Tuesday, 4 May, between Biccard Street and Civic Boulevard from 8:30 to 10:00 for the formation and procession of the motorcade.

“Traffic congestion can be expected; we are appealing to road users to be patient at that moment and to acquaint themselves with the traffic management so they can plan their routes accordingly”.

The Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Geoff Makhubo will deliver the #JoburgSOCA21 on Tuesday, 4 May 2021 at 10:00, at the City of Johannesburg Council Chambers in Braamfontein.

The City of Joburg confirmed on Monday that “there is over R1 billion for job creation and SMMEs engagement through the roll-out of high-impact projects that include sewer upgrades, stormwater upgrades, tarring of roads and housing developments”.

“1 350 to be employed across the City’s 135 wards – an initiative that will see each ward have a minimum of 10 people working daily to augment the services provided by the City’s entities”.

Furthermore, a total of R1.2 billion “has been allocated for the formalisation of informal settlements over the medium term”, while 500 000 food parcels and vouchers to be distributed to vulnerable households.
