Gauteng: Policewoman dies in motorbike crash while escorting vaccines

Tragedy struck in Rosslyn, Pretoria when a traffic policewoman died in a motorbike accident while escorting COVID-19 vaccines.

Officer Poppy Moaka has died in an accident while riding her motorbike on Tuesday 14 September. The crash happened on the R566 Rossyln Road next to Nkwe Estate in Rossyln, north of Pretoria while transporting vaccines.

It is said that the 40-year-old Moaka died during a morning ride to escort a COVID-19 vaccine delivery to a designated site in Tshwane.

MOAKA WAS ESCORTING A BUS CARRYING VACCINES

According to a report by Arrive Alive, Moaka was on her work motorbike to escort a bus that was delivering vaccines to a COVID-19 vaccination site in Tshwane.

The fatal accident included involved Moaka’s motorbike, as well as two other vehicles that included a police vehicle.

“The 40-year-old female biker officer lost her life, instantly, in a tragic accident while escorting a bus carrying Covid-19 vaccines to a vaccination site in Tshwane,” Arrive Alive stated.

“Police investigations into the fatal crash have commenced,” the report added.

GAUTENG PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SEND CONDOLENCES

Faith Mazibuko, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, described the late Moaka as a diligent and dedicated officer within the traffic police department.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of one of the most diligent and dedicated officers within the Gauteng Traffic Police. Officer Moaka will be remembered as a heroine who passed away in the line of duty, ensuring that the people of Gauteng get the vaccine essential in saving lives during this Covid-19 pandemic,” said MEC Mazibuko.

“As Gauteng Provincial Government, we convey our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues within the law enforcement fraternity during these trying times,” added MEC Mazibuko.
