Watch: Traffic official remains calm in the face of motorist’s harassment [video]

Every day you see a story about road rage, police corruption or incompetence. So for once, it’s good to watch some shaky cell phone footage without having to question the state of the country, planet and universe.

Let’s all sponsor a holiday drink for the officer in this video who was displaying inhuman patience as he puts up with the best attempts of a motorist to defy his instructions and undermine his authority.

In the video, the officer remains calm and explains to the motorist why he had been issued with a fine only to be harassed all the way back to his cop car, where the driver proceeds to make some strategically questionable decisions.

The motorist uses the classic distraction strategy applied on battlefields around the world in deciding that this was the right time to ask that the policeman arrest a nearby car guard for harassment. We are not rightly sure exactly what the next step was in his plan to avoid a fine, but step one appeared to be belligerence and irrationality.

“Don’t bump me, why are you bumping me? I want you to take action against the car guard,” the man says.

The motorist continues to press the issue and manages to use only the power of his personality and wits to force what appears to be the nicest policeman in the country to arrest him.

The next part of the plan appeared to be to claim that the policeman was attempting to run him over while in his stationary vehicle.

“I am not fighting you. You can record as much as you want to record me, but I am going to arrest you for interfering in my official capacity,” the policeman says.

Social media users appreciated the efforts of the policeman, who clearly was not about to have his day, week, or even his year ruined by the angry and rather irritating motorist. Cilly Vos said on Facebook the officer’s patience is remarkable, and added:

“And at this time of year too, even though he must be dealing with more nonsense from nincompoops than usual! Salute!”

Clinton Grant added that the “cop handled himself perfectly,” and that the people recording the incidents were the ones at fault, while Andre van Der Merwe said, “Good job Officer! Arrest his ass!”

Sibonisa Jerome Boh Mnguni added that this heroic officer was the “true embodiment of black excellence,” as it was clear that the “aim of recording was to portray an officer as a criminal.”
