Traffic Department robbed by armed bogus contractors
A Traffic Department in the Enoch Mgijima Municipality was robbed by an armed gang that made off with an estimated R70 000 worth of cash

Police in Komani (Queenstown) in the Eastern Cape are probing a case of armed robbery after municipal officials were held at gunpoint at Enoch Mgijima Municipality Traffic Department offices.
According to the Enoch Mgijima Municipality, the armed robbery occurred on Friday, 17 June at about 10am where two municipal staff members and four members of a contractor working at the Municipal offices were held at gunpoint by four armed men.
No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained, however, the robbers made off with an unverified amount of money, currently estimated to be around R70 000, the Municipality confirmed.
POLICE COMMENT ON THE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT SAGA
Police were called into the scene and the matter was handed over to them.
Captain Namhla Mdleleni, spokesperson for the police, reiterated that unknown men entered the premises pretending to come for renovations.
“While they were being attended to, all four drew firearms and held employees at gunpoint and demanded cash. The suspects managed to steal undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene, “Captain Mdleleni said.

She added that the suspects are still at large and has urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ntombekhaya Mahlanza on 082 319 7944 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Also, tip-offs can be submitted via the My SAPS App.
The municipality has also indicated that the affected employees received professional assistance in the aftermath of the incident while the contractor is also taking care of their employees.
