The bodies of three young South African girls were discovered by their father in Timaru, New  Zealand, on Thursday, 16 September. The police in that country are investigating a case of triple murder and the suspected killer was taken from the home to a nearby hospital.

TIMARU TRAGEDY

Graham Dickason, an orthopaedic surgeon, returned home on Thursday and found the dead bodies of his three-year-old twin daughters and their older sister, aged seven. He was reportedly heard screaming and yelling, “Is this really happening?” by neighbours, according to local publication Stuff.

Dickason’s wife is also a doctor, according to local media reports. The neighbourhood the family was staying in after moving to New Zealand a month ago is reportedly routinely used to house staff from the nearby Timaru Hospital, according to The New Zealand Herald.

The emergency services arrived at the home of the deceased shortly after 22:00 local time on Thursday but the girls could not be saved. A homicide inquiry has been opened by local detectives and the suspected killer, a woman, was taken to Timaru Hospital where she is in a stable condition.

The children’s grandparents in South Africa are aware of the tragedy and told Stuff that they are devastated by the incident.
