Three suspects, including two females, were nabbed for possession of four firearms and ammunition in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED AFTER JOINT INTELLIGENT OPERATION

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa detailed that on Tuesday, 11 October 2022, at about 15:15, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Specialised Task Team, in joint intelligence-driven operations with Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) and South African Police Service (SAPS) Highway Patrol arrested three suspects for possession of four firearms and ammunitions.

Colonel Thepa said the law enforcers followed a suspicious motor vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz with three (3) occupants, and stopped it at Zephaniah drive in Welamlambo section, Tembisa.

CONFISCATED FIREARMS LABELLED BY EMPD

“Upon searching the vehicle, the occupants were found to be in possession of four (4) firearms of various makes, namely CZ star; CZ flywheel; CZ P – 07 and Vector with all serial numbers filed off, and eleven (11) live rounds.”

She added that the suspects, two females aged 32 years and one male aged 43 years, were immediately arrested, and detained at Tembisa Police Station.

The trio is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon, according to the report.

In a related story, an intelligence-driven operation led by the National Intervention Unit and Crime Intelligence members in Cape Town attained a major breakthrough when they arrested four suspects who were allegedly poised to commit a Cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Eersterivier, Western Cape Province on Friday morning, 14 October 2022.

According to the police, the suspects were found in possession of three firearms including two R5 rifles with two magazines and 50 live rounds of ammunition, as well as a revolver. All firearms had their serial numbers filed off. One White Nissan NP200 fitted with false registration plates was also confiscated.
