Three killed, two critically injured in truck accident on N3 Harrismith

Paramedics on Monday morning found three people who sustained fatal injuries, whilst two others were found in critical condition.

Three people lost their lives while two others were critically injured in an accident on the N3 near Harrismith on Monday morning.

OCCUPANTS WERE FOUND ENTRAPPED IN THE WRECKAGE

According to Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the accident happened on the N3 near the Eeram off-ramp on Monday morning around 09:00.

“A Toyota Hilux had collided in a T-bone fashion with a heavy-duty vehicle.”

Van Reenen said the five occupants of the Toyota Hilux were severely entrapped in the wreckage.

“Three occupants were found to have sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead on arrival, whilst two others were found in a critical condition.”

He furthermore said emergency care practitioners worked fervently to stabilize them, using numerous advanced life support intervention techniques, whilst rescue technicians, cut them free from the wreckage using the Jaws-of-life.

“Once free, they were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.”

The driver and single occupant of the heavy-duty vehicle suffered moderate injuries and were treated and stabilized on the scene before being taken to a local hospital for further care.

Van Reenen said the cause of the collision is unknown and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.

ANOTHER FATAL ACCIDENT IN KZN ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Meanwhile, three pedestrians have died after being allegedly run over by a drunk driver on an unnamed road in B Section, Parkgate in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Saturday night.

Two pedestrians were killed instantly while the third victim, a 22-year-old man died in hospital. The incident happened around 22:30 after the current 21:00 curfew.

Private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said it received multiple calls at approximately 22:02 from residents in the area requesting assistance for the injured.

“Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found an angry mob assaulting a man who had been stripped naked. It was established that he was the driver of the white Toyota Corolla involved in the accident.
