Three ATM bombing suspects arrested in Tembisa

Police arrested three suspects in connection with ATM bombings in Gauteng; dye-stained money, explosives, and firearms were found

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Teams (TRT) arrested three suspects on Saturday morning, 4 March in Tembisa, Gauteng, who may be linked to the recent ATM bombings in and around the area.

Police recover dye-stained money after ATM bombings

The police discovered dye-stained money, explosives, as well as four firearms and ammunition in their possession.

Acting on intelligence-driven information, the police tracked down the first suspect, a 44-year-old South African national, and searched his vehicle.

They found dye-stained money in the boot.

The police arrested a 35-year-old Lesotho national and a 28-year-old Mozambican national in the same area with similar possessions.

Public warned against picking up dye-stained money

The SAPS Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, congratulated the Erkurhuleni and Tshwane TRT for successfully apprehending the suspects.

Mosikili warned the public against picking up dye-stained money, as it has no value and may link them to the syndicate.

The three suspects face charges of possessing dye-stained money, unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and illegal possession of explosives.

They will appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
