Police: Three arrested for possession of stolen copper worth R1.2m
Transnet and PRASA identified the two tons of stolen copper as their property. Two women and a man were arrested.

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police arrested two women and a man for possession of stolen copper cables and damaging essential infrastructure on Wednesday, 3 August.
POLICE NAB THREE OVER STOLEN COPPER
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said Transnet and PRASA identified the two tons of copper cables as their property, in a statement on Saturday, 6 August. The cables have an estimated value of R1.2 million.
Gwala said the suspects were arrested after a multidisciplinary operation in Marianhill and Shallcross. Members searched the area for several kilometres. In Ekuphumuleni Location they found a house that was allegedly storing the cables.
“They found two 34-year-old women inside the house and conducted a search. Following a search of the house police discovered copper cables worth R500 000. Both women were arrested for possession of stolen property,” said the police spokesperson.
The police raided another house in the area and found copper cables worth R700 000 inside. A 47-year-old man was arrested for the same charges mentioned.
The trio appeared before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 4 August for possession of stolen property. It is unclear when their next court appearance will be.
